Caspar van Baal focusses his practice primarily on family law. He also assists clients in seeking fair and just compensation for injuries sustained in accidents.

Caspar spends most of his time helping clients on family law issues, in preparation for cohabitation or marriage, or after separation or divorce, including issues such as property division, child custody and access, spousal and child support, as well as negotiating and drafting separation, marriage and cohabitation agreements. Caspar is a trained Collaborative Family Law practitioner and offers Collaborative Family Law as an added service to assist clients who need legal assistance following separation.

With over twenty-two years of experience, Caspar helps clients who are in need of legal advice or representation by applying his knowledge, expertise and practical experiences, both in and out of the courtroom. He is a hands-on, pragmatic lawyer who knows when it is necessary for clients to stand up for their rights and advocate forcefully, yet also recognizes when it is better to resolve legal issues through discussion and other avenues such as mediation or Collaborative Family Law. His practice reflects this balance.

Caspar lived in the Netherlands for 18 years before coming to Canada. He is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, where he completed his B.A. (Honours) in 1985. He obtained his LL.B from the University of Ottawa in 1988. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1990, and has practiced law in Ottawa ever since.

Caspar is fluent in Dutch and English. He is pleased to serve his clients in both languages. Because of his Dutch heritage and proficiency in the Dutch language, Caspar has represented local, national and international clients. Caspar has successfully represented clients at various Court levels as well as before Administrative Boards and Tribunals.

A member of the County of Carleton Law Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada and a board member of the Ottawa Collaborative Practice Group, Caspar is also active in the Ottawa community. He fundraises for several charitable organizations. He is a former Board member of the Canadian Diabetes Association, Ottawa Chapter, and Ottawa Family Services/Services a la Famille Ottawa (FSFO). He has also enjoyed participating in numerous fundraising events in Ottawa.

Caspar and his family have made Ottawa their home since the mid-1980s. He loves the diverse culture of Ottawa, its geographical location and the proximity to the outdoors. When the weather is good, he loves to partake in both downhill and cross country skiing, and with his family, frequents many of the local festivals. Caspar also enjoys being a handyman, with its many trials and tribulations.
